Getting Bethany ready to go Camping
Getting Bethany ready to go camping is a chore. lol. Let me explain. Bethany is 15 and has spinabifida. She is paralyzed from the waist down. Because of this she needs a lot of extra stuff in fact she packs two full suitcases for an 11 day camping trip. Thankfully I have learned how to pack the flylady way and I believe I have everything under control. For the last three days we have been doing laundry nonstop so I hope when the family gets home we can get a routine so that we won't have such a hassle with laundry. I'm probably dreaming though because I tried that last time and it only lasted about a month. Oh well I'll keep trying. One day I will be in charge of my own household and I hope to keep a better handle on it then. Back to Bethany aside from two suitcases to pack, she also needs to have her chair adjusted to fit on the back of the four wheeler. Get this she loves 4 wheeling and fishing and camping as long as her daddy is there. You may well wonder how we get her chair on the back of a 4 wheeler. Well first of all her wheel chair has a chair that detaches so that it can sit either in her manual or her electric wheelchair. By detaching the seat we have fund a way to have her be comfortable on the 4 wheeler. We attach the seat by using Velcro and ratchet straps. Then we have to fix pieces of foam for her feet to rest on. This year we are trying to fix her a hat with netting to help keep off mosquitoes. Bethany has been a bit moody today because she wants to go camping today instead of tomorrow. She knows that they can't leave until Dad gets home and so she has been waiting for him to get home all day long. A few years ago we almost lost our little bundle of joy. She had some major issues and stopped eating for a while. We are so glad she has finally regained her appetite and as a silver lining got medicaid as a result. Because of this she now has the therapy she lacked for many years and has progressed so much in her vocabulary and eating skills. She is now able to feed herself as long as the food has been pre-cut. We are hoping that she will eventually be able to use a transfer board to get out of bed and into her wheelchair. Unfortunately her excellent physical therapist decided to go to Alaska for the summer and she is without one right now. I would like to ask you all to pray we find another good therapist.
